Hold Tight to Your Dreams

20130423-231947.jpgThe will to keep striving
It comes and goes
Sometimes we’re strong
Other times, not so.

Raring to pursue
Through thick and through thin
We often just hang on
And sometimes give in.

Life’s unpredictable
Often a challenge
We push and push harder
We might lose our balance.

Grasp tight to the dream
Beg, steal or borrow
What’s out of our reach now
Might be our tomorrow.

All is not lost
When turned down by some

A door will then open
Out comes the sun.

A brighter tomorrow
Is within our grasp
If we just hang on
Our day will come at last.

I will get mine
And so will you
If we just hang in for the long haul

And not be so blue.

They say just smile
And act really charming
Pretend you are happy
It’s not so alarming.

What’s the alternative?
Pouting you say.
Laugh at your problems
That’s the best way.

Hang on to the moment

Hold tight to your dreams
You will be happy soon
If you just believe.

Good things are worth
The time and the wait
Your moment in the sunshine
Will come, if you have faith.

One Day You Wake Up

One day
You wake up
And notice
Little lines
Criss-crossing from
The corners of your eyes.

One morning
You wake up
And notice
Your breasts
Are not quite as perky
As they were yesterday.
Or was that last month?
Last year?

One day
You wake up
And notice
A deep groove
From your nose to your mouth
As if it’s begging for attention.
Look at my smile!
Notice me.

One day
You wake up
And see that groove on both
Sides of your mouth
Has deepened
Reaching down to your chin
Parenthesis
Is what the ad for cosmetic filler calls it.

One day
You wake up
And read your favorite magazines.
Not for the articles
Not for the fashions
But for the ads
Promising to restore youth.

One day
You wake up
And smile.
You no longer care about the changes.
Not as much anyway.
You realize the eye crinkles
Are from smiling at your children’s graduations.
From sharing their joys. Planning their tomorrows.

One day
You wake up
And realize the parentheses are from laughing at your mistakes
And laughing when you see your children making the same ones.

One day
I woke up
And was happy to
Get another day
To enjoy all I have
And be thankful
That I woke up.

Tomorrow’s Diet

I will give up
My favorite treats
From food made with sugar
To food made with wheat.

No more spaghetti
Or tart lemon drops
No more sandwich cookies
Or Tootsie roll pops.

No more ice cream
Or crispy French fries
Or buckets of popcorn
Or even fried rice.

No more lasagna
Or BBQ food
No more large pizza
Unless I’m in the mood.

If I get too hungry
Or get really mad
I know I’ll succumb
I know I’ll be bad.

So forget my new plan
It’s way way too crude
I’ll just be more sensible
When choosing my food.

Veggies and fruit
Fresh, no cans
I’ll be good tomorrow
Tonight, I have plans.

I’ll clean out the fridge
The pantry of Pringles
Polish off the cookies
The ice cream, with sprinkles.

Once all the goodies are
Out of the house
I’ll face my new scale
And so will my spouse.

One More Try for Love

Courage is fleeting
I don’t know why
I’m stuck in the corner
Afraid to try.

Tears are a waste
As night passes slowly
I’ll go out tomorrow
Forget feeling lonely.

Men come and go
Dates seldom work
I’ll wait for right one
Instead of a jerk.

Forget the diet
Bring me the bread
And chocolate and wine till I’m
Light in the head.

Keep my chin up
There’ll come a time
When singing and dancing
And fun will be mine.

Love don’t come easy
That is no lie
Yes, I have the courage
To give it one more try.

Jon Stewart vs Twitter

Twitter is the
Best for me
I get my news
One two three.

I don’t have to wait
For evenings at seven
Or six or ten
Or, God forbid, eleven.

I pick up my iPhone
It’s simple you see
No straining with newsprint
No waste, no fees.

No cost whatsoever
To get my news fast
Why wait for a reporter
To send out a blast.

I want to know now.
No patience have I
To read lengthy stories
To strain my old eyes.

I pick up my phone
I click on my app
Getting my headlines
Is really a snap.

I get quite enough
Of news that I need
I don’t have to wade through
Dribble you see.

I don’t want opinion
Or spin on a story
Give me the facts
Not allegory.

I’ll take my news
Dumbed down with ease
I just want your tweet
140 words please.

After the day’s done
I’m caught up on news
I’ll search my recordings
Jon Stewart I’ll choose.

To give me the lowdown
On politics and prose
His wit and his wisdom
His genius, who knows?

He’s right on the mark
He cuts through the chase
Ok, I’ll admit it
He has a cute face.

He wrinkles and scrunches
His cute little nose
But wisdom comes through
Clear down to his toes.

Twitter by day
Is as good as it gets
For full coverage the Daily Show
Is truly the best.

My Three Minute Meditation

My three minute meditation

I’m sitting
I’m waiting
For my stress to flee
Leaving my body
Like leaves from a tree.

Just three little minutes
That’s all that it takes
For stress to take flight
And leave me…
I’ll wait.

The three little minutes
He said it will work
To lower my blood pressure
I feel like a jerk.

Just three little minutes
Are driving me crazy
I could have washed dishes
Instead I feel lazy.

Just three little minutes
That’s way way too long
When one bar of chocolate
Would make me so strong.

Just three little minutes
Thank God they are done
Forget about stress relief methods
I’m going out for some fun!

A Son’s Tribute – Peanut Man

20130131-163937.jpg

Flying high
Up and away
In his spaceship
Don’t ask me why.

Never forgetting
Where he came from
He stares out the window
He watches the sun.

He looks for the moon
He dances on stars
He sings with his eyes closed
He travels so far.

To Saturn, to Mercury
To planets unnamed
He flies through the universe
It’s all a big game.

He settles back down
All snug in his bed
Dreams of his loved ones
Filling his head.

This tribute would do
And so would a letter
But one thing’s for sure
A tattoo lasts forever.

My Favorite Geek

Gratitude’s an attitude
I live it every day
Just to have you with me
This is what I say.

Every time you’re near me
Words alone won’t do
I tremble at your touch
Your smell, your brown eyes too.

How on earth to thank you
I have to get a clue
You guided me with gentle care
You held my hand so true.

From back I peeked over
Your shoulder to get a glance
To figure out your method
So I could take a chance.

To do the job with no help
Some day no help I’ll seek
But today I need my computer
Fixed by my favorite geek.

Love you honey!!

Valentine Courage in a Bowl

Tickled I am
Though not fully pink
I laid down my pencil
And picked up my ink.

I started to write
Jotting down notes
Dazed and confused
I don't get a vote.

With hands that were trembling
No fear in my soul
I tackled my feelings
Then dove for the bowl.

My bowl filled with ice cream
Glistened with delight
It tempted and cajoled me
On this lonely night.

Green swirls and brown
Chips in there too
Swimming in fudge sauce
Only the best would do.

Liquid courage came next
Kahlua worked well
To ink down on paper
What the hell.

With heart in my hand
Without fearing I'd fail
I signed sealed and stamped the words I love you
And sent them to mail.

Whatever the result
If he loves me too
We'll know sooner or later
I hope sooner, wouldn't you?

Now time for sleep
My lover away
I pray for his answer
I worry what he'll say.

We can't always get
The answer we want
Life's just not as easy
As picking a font.

I long for the day
He answers my prayer
With a bushel of roses
Or scarf, showing he cares.

I hate Valentine's Day
So much on the line
Hearing I love you
Will you be mine?

If its meant to be
It will
We all know that's true
I told him my feelings
That's all I can do.

My cell just beeped.
A text from my man
"I can't wait to see you
I've made a big plan."

OMG what is this?
He just got my letter
He'll say that he loves me
He'll commit now, he better.

He stands in my hallway
Drops down on one knee
Darling I love you
Will you have me?

Yes!

To My Birth Mother – Thank You

You loved me once
I believe it’s true
From the bottom of my heart
No words will do.

Ripped from your flesh
A moment too soon
You provided my lifeline
You gave me the moon.

And stars and planets
And the earth below my feet
You could have let go sooner
Admitted defeat.

I’ll love you forever
Knowing you were the one
Without your courage
There’d be no sun.

There’d be no universe
In which I would live
I don’t understand why you let go of me
But the greatest gift did you give.

The two I called parents
Who raised me with care
Owe you all their blessings
Deny, they wouldn’t dare.

I’m glad that I found you
Although it’s too late
To thank you in person
Would not be our fate.

I look to your son
Since you’ve passed away
I love my new brother
Yesterday, tomorrow, and today.
